Cripes, this has been a shitty crazy month!

So crazy in fact I used the word ‘cripes’ rather than ‘blimey’ or ‘motherfucker’ (hey, you want eloquence then you visit a real writer’s blog!). I was full of excitement October 31st…and not just because it was Halloween (ok, mostly because it was Halloween). The whole month of November was ahead of me, a chance to write 50,000 words for a new novel, the chance to make new NaNo friends and have a few nights out (for the first time in a loooong time), the chance to finally get back into the rhythm of daily writing.

Also November is Movember, so I would finally get to start growing my ‘tache.

Looking back my innocence and childish glee at the prospect of such a ‘fruitful’ month is laughable…of course life invariably got in the way…again.

NaNo started explosively, words went whizzing by and I flew through the first days word count, smashing it in fact and writing double the suggested amount of words for the day.

Then things went a bit wonky.

I lost all momentum on NaNo, uni projects came tumbling out of the woodwork (the joys of being a mature student), work got BUSY, money got TIGHT, my dog ate the hallway carpet, and my head went PIFF.

I’m writing, I’m still bloody writing.

You just try and stop me.

A few people have said “Aww, what a crap month, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t finish nano”…and to them I say pttttppppphhhh and give them the two fingered salute – in a jokey, I’m still your friend please don’t hit me kind of way of course.

I CAN do it, and I bloody WILL do it.

I hit 20k today…only 5k behind target.

Then I sat down and worked out all the things I had to do. I made a list. I like lists.

So now I have a list to attack…and attack it I will, with a large pointy pencil and the determination of someone who takes of 50,000 word writing projects over the duration of only 30 days.

Don’t mess with me world, I’m a WRITER!

Bring it on, MF!

p.s. I think karma felt a little guilty about all the shit it handed me so today it poked me with the good side of its double ended sword and I found out I secure FREE tickets to go see the new series of Red Dwarf, which is being filmed pretty soon! Woooooo!!

p.p.s My ‘tache looks awesome…thanks for asking.

Of course you can still make it. I’m about 4000 words behind at the moment and I still intend to finish… fingers crossed… life permitting.

I like lists too, I especially like ticking things off of lists.

And I hope your dog is ok after eating the carpet.

We’ll get there in the end…and we’ll still be excited when it comes around next year! Why do we never learn?!

Now surely you can add everything you’ve written on your list to your Nano wordcount?

“marches around with placard that states “UP The Wordcount”

    Look after doggie.

      If only I could 🙁

Don’t write lists! Have your character write them. Or maybe they find a dropped notebook filled with lists which they read and wonder what kind of ‘tached up person could have written them.

Ha, nice idea Patsy 😛 Can’t bring myself to use tricks like that though. Although I might not need to anymore, I’m making a bit of progress today and if I can get to 35k then I think I can still make it. Will be writing non-stop on Mon, Tue, Wed since I’m off work. If the ideas keep flowing then I should be able to smash through 50k!
