A whole week dead-icated to zombies!

Ok, so I won a competition recently, and as part of the prize iZombie will be covering my blog for a whole week! Thanks iZombie! So I thought I’d better actually post some interesting stuff. Well some ‘slightly’ interesting stuff to make his job promoting me a little easier
This is going to be harder than I thought though because I almost completely mentally exhausted myself yesterday by coming up with ‘interesting’ facts for a blog award a fellow writer awarded me the other day. Check out the last post for some pointless info about me. Because I’m not really that interesting, and I’ve already used up all the stories about myself that are worth telling, I’m going to talk about my current WIP.
I’m writing a zombie novel….yeah, yeah, I know! That’s the literary equivalent of eating marmite, some people will think it’s a great idea and some of you will be sniggering at the whole concept. I get it; zombies have a bad rap in literature. Not that they have a good rap in general society with all the brain chomping and flesh chewing, but I guess we all have our burdens.
I’m about 71k into it at the moment, well about 71,646 if you check my little countery thingamabob at the top of this page. I’ve been writing this one since the beginning of November, it started as part of NaNoWriMo.
Actually no, it started a little further back than that…the idea at least. It was an idea I had for a short story I was going to write for an antho, but the idea just grew and grew in my head until I knew I couldn’t do it justice in less than 20,000 words.
As it was nearing November I decided it would be a good idea to use NaNo as the inspiration to blast through this one. After all the ideas were surging through my brain, little snippets of clever dialogue and great twists and turns that I could drop in to keep the action flowing.
The trouble was as soon as NaNo finished, so did I.
I wrote 50,000+ words in one month and then nothing in December…bad writer *slap* and almost nothing in January…tut tut *punch*
Somehow though, in the past couple of months I’ve been able to turn that around. I’ve pushed on through the ‘boring’ sections and made it to the beginning of the end. I’m pretty much at the third act of the story, barring a few tweaks, and the action is starting to flow again. My MC is on his way to kick the antagonist’s ass, metaphorically AND literally, and there may even be a mass zombie showdown before the last word is written.
I’ll be posting some more zombie related snippets this week, some about my novel, some just because zombies feckin’ kick ass! I could probably do with a little help from zombie fans as well later in the week, so check back for some questions you might be able to help me with.
Catchyalatereh!

Congrats on the winning and the exposure from iZombie. I know what you mean about the reception of zombies in literature but I think that's even true inside the sphere of zombie lovers too.

I'm a big fan of this genre strand and still I wince sometimes at zombie stuff.

Good luck with the novel and really looking forward to the zombie week.

Zombies are my favourite undead creatures. I'll be watching with interest. They don't want to eat brains, they just want a good education.
