NaNoWriMo 2012 (closer than you think)
I know it’s early but these things take time to plan dontchyaknow! November is but a mere forty-one sleeps away…not that many when you consider time likes to speed up the closer it gets to Christmas! Before you know it we’ll all be sitting down stuffing turkey and cake down our necks and trying desperately to forget about how bad this year’s NaNo went…
But until then we can look forward to how bad NaNo is going to be! Wooo!
(I promise not use any more ! for the rest of this post)
For those of you not in the NaNo loop (and no, that isn’t a new ride at Alton Towers), the challenge consists of sitting down during November (or standing if you prefer) and bashing out 50,000 words before the end of the month.
The rules are simple – 50,000 words, 30 days.
Other than that the rest is pretty much up to you. Novel, novella, collection of short stories, as long as you get the word count done then its all gravy. Most people like to start something brand new and frown upon people that continue an existing story, but hey if you have the first half of an old novel kicking around somewhere I don’t think you’re going to get run out of town for using NaNo to add 50k to the word count.
But generally new ideas are the way to go. You can do as much research as you want before the start date – hence the early thread – but you can’t start writing until Nov 1st.

You can find me here http://nanowrimo.org/en/participants/boredrobots (don’t forget to throw some verbal abuse my way if you see my word count flagging).
Local meet ups are quite popular and usually involve lots and lots of coffee. They are a great way of keeping up to the daily word count (around 1,667 if you want to write the same amount every day) and they can be a wonderful source of inspiration if you feel your motivation waning. People that attend are usually very friendly and more than willing to offer advice on any writing problems you may be having – plus there’s generally one or two piss ups involved. What? It helps with the creative processes…honest.
